Who is the greenest Lib Dem leadership candidate - Friends of the Earth interviews the contenders

11 December 2007

Liberal Democrat leadership contenders Nick Clegg and Chris Huhne have both been interviewed by Friends of the Earth to help establish who has the best green credentials. The campaign group is hoping that Liberal Democrat members who want to make the environment a central issue for the party will check out the on-line interviews before voting.

Both candidates, who say that the environment is top of their list of priorities, answer a range of questions including the importance of green issues to the Liberal Democrats, the need to strengthen the Government's climate change bill and the steps that they are taking to cut their personal carbon footprint.

Friends of the Earth's Parliamentary Campaigner Katie Elliott, said:

"We're delighted that both candidates for the Liberal Democrat leadership agree that environmental issues are at the top of their priorities. We face a huge environmental challenge, especially on climate change, so it's really important that our party leaders are committed to taking urgent action to help safeguard the planet for future generations. We hope that Liberal Democrat members will hear what the candidates have to say before they cast their vote."
